House of Light
l ight installation for the World Light Fair

In order to add a sensory aspect to the commercial orientation of the World Light Fair 1998, the organizers, Hannover Messe, commissioned the creation of twelve 'Houses of Light' of 3x3m. In a competition our concept for one of these houses was chosen for realization.

We were interested in focusing on the immaterial and mysterious properties of light and were inspired by a poem of André Bréton – “the shelf is full of laundry, even rays of moonlight are in there, which I can unfold”. We created a dark box with drawers of various sizes with small lit handles on one wall. Each drawer contained light with a different colour and intensity. When opened up the drawers revealed its intangible content.
