Since its foundation in the mid-19th century
the Eickhoff-Corporation has developed a special corporate culture. The
main factory halls were built by the well-known German architect Paul
Bonatz in the 1930s and till today are used for the production of large-scale
mining machinery and windmills. The Eickhoff-Forum was recently launched
as a platform to intensify the relation between workers and their work
through the running of courses such as language, fitness or theatre. Theses
activities are intended to engage the workers - both blue and white collar
- beyond the factory floor and strengthen their commitment to the corporate
culture.
The old cinema hall from the 1950s which was built into one of the factory
halls was to become the venue for the Eickhoff Forum. It was structured
as a separate room in the upper floor of the hall - a space within a space.
In the course of the renovation all partition walls, built-in elements
and the wall on the side of the stage were taken away, creating a unified,
new space consisting of only one wall, spiralling inwards.
